Salisbury family correspondence, 1833-1849.

The collection consists of letters written between members of Samuel Salisbury Jr.'s family, including his wife, Nancy Gardner Salisbury, daughters Anne, Sarah and Rebecca, and son Daniel Waldo Salisbury. The contents deal primarily with news about friends and family members: travels, parties, illnesses, finances, fashion, and church attendance. There are several letters in the collection of particular interest. In a letter dated Aug. 8, 1834, Elbridge Gerry Austin (husband of Sarah Salisbury), describes the balloon flight from Boston Common of "Durant the Aeronaut." In a letter dated May 1837, Anne G. Salisbury describes the effects of the Panic of 1837 in Boston. Samuel Salisbury discusses Mount Auburn Cemetery and the Public Garden in a letter dated July 1, 1840, and "Lucinda" mentions plans for the Bunker Hill monument in a letter dated August 13, 1840.
